Wet watery PASTELS

Can you believe the fluidity and fun you get when you add water to pastels? Watch this space to see this flowing river of pigment transform to a real live painting - I can feel it in my bones!!!

  1. Maggie, this is really cool. Didn't realize you could add water to pastels...then again..why not! Do you then fool around with a brush on the painting?

  2. Yep - just let it flow and avoid trying to let it look like anything at this stage!!

  4. Hi Hilda

Thanks for looking in! If you think about it, pastel IS pure pigment, therefore why not mix it with water, or turenoid, or whatever. Experiment and have fun! I use a heavy weight paper that will take the wetting ie 300lb watercolour papers like Arches or Saunders Waterford, Art Spectrum's Colourfix or Uart, made right there in NY!
